15 Best Games of the 8th Console Generation

The eighth console generation was a time of plentiful bounty. Across genres and platforms, from small developers and large, from all corners of the industry, there has been something to love for everyone these last few years. There have been more than a few games that can legitimately be considered as all-time greats, and though the industry at large is now waiting with bated breath to see whether the era of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S will deliver the goods in the same way their predecessors did, here, we’re going to pause and look back at the last few years. These are the best games of the previous console generation.

A final hurrah for Nathan Drake, in the last Uncharted game to be developed by Naughty Dog- the stakes were immensely high for Uncharted 4 right off the bat, and living up to expectations was not going to be easy by any means. Under the guidance of the dynamic duo of Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, however, Nathan Drake’s final adventure proved to be one that we will never forget- perhaps even his best one ever. From a well-told story with endearing characters to thrilling set-pieces to keep you on the edges of your seats, from tightly crafted and best-in-class gameplay to astoundingly beautiful visuals, Uncharted 4 delivers on all the fronts that it needed to- and then some.
