F1 22 Director on Lack of Story Mode – “It Will Return in the Future”

F1 22

F1 22 is going to bring some big changes to Codemasters’ annual racing sim franchise, with new features such as supercars and F1 Life promising an interesting shake-up to its formula. One major feature that will be missing in the game, however, is a story mode. Originally introduced in F1 2021 under the name “Breaking Point”, the story mode will not be coming back in this year’s instalment.

Why, however, is that the case, especially considering the fact that it was so well-received upon its introduction last year? In a recent interview with GamingBolt, F1 22’s senior creative director Lee Mather said that the F1 series’ two-year development cycle meant Breaking Point couldn’t return in this year’s game. He added, however, that Codemasters remains “committed” to the feature, and that “it will return in future.”

“We saw great success with our F1 2021 story mode Braking Point across both new and returning players, and we’re committed to this feature,” Mather told us. “However it’s not part of our immediate plans due to our two-year development cycle with our internal teams. But rest assured, it will return in the future.”

In a leak prior to F1 22’s official announcement, insider Tom Henderson revealed that Breaking Point would not be returning in the game, though added that the story mode would be back for next year’s entry. Based on Mather’s comments to us, it seems like that might indeed be the case.

In our interview, Mather also revealed F1 22’s target resolutions and frame rates on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and confirmed that the game will receive cross-play support after launch. Read more on that through here. Our full interview with Mather will be live soon, so stay tuned for that.

F1 22 is out on July 1 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out its PC requirements through here. The game’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, meanwhile, will be tied to the Champions Edition, which will cost $80.
