Activision has spent the last few days aggressively teasing the next instalment in the Call of Duty franchise, and though full details on it have yet to be shared, the company has now formally announced the game, complete with its official title.

Taking to Twitter, Activision announced that true to leaks, Call of Duty’s 2024 instalment will indeed be another Black Ops game. The company describes it as “a dark new chapter” for the series, and has officially announced its name as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Prior leaks had claimed that the game would be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, sticking with the naming convention set by 2020’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

As per leaks, this year’s instalment in the shooter franchise is set during the Gulf War, and will feature a fully open world campaign developed by Raven Software, with a release date allegedly set for October. Recent reports have also claimed that as the first game in the series to release under Microsoft ownership, this year’s game will also launch day one for Game Pass.

Details on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will likely be filtering through at a regular clip over the coming days and weeks. A full-fledged blowout is expected at a dedicated Direct presentation on June 9 immediately following the Xbox Games Showcase.
