Dying Light: The Beast Details Brutal Melee Combat, Beast Gameplay, and Volatiles in New Footage
Dying Light: The Beast was next up on the Xbox @ Gamescom broadcast, highlighting a new side mission where Kyle Crane investigates some survivors with water troubles. He sets out for the Industrial Pumping Station, parkouring through abandoned buildings and tackling zombies on rooftops. Check it out below courtesy of GamersPrey.
The sheer blood and gore resulting from the slashing attacks is revealed. You can lop off a zombie’s leg to stop its advance, but it will continue crawling towards you. Techland promises more than 100 melee weapons, including machetes, wrenches, hammers, crowbars and secret weapons such as medieval swords, katanas, and custom options.
You can also discover a flamethrower, a first for the franchise, alongside other firearms (including a grenade launcher). As Kyle leaves the town, he encounters a horde of zombies on a bridge, taking out a few before hopping off the bridge and escaping. He also switches to an assault rifle in the pumping. He also switches to an assault rifle in the pumping station, gunning down the undead while checking the water pressure.
When Kyle unleashes “The Beast,” he can tear zombies apart with his bare hands. Perfect dodges, taking damage, parries and dealing melee damage build its meter. So while firearms may be potent, there’s enough incentive for getting your hands dirty. The next step is to head to the Waterworks Repair Facility, where Kyle drives through numerous zombies. Vehicles are another new addition, and despite how great they are at killing zombies, you need to keep track of the damage taken and fuel supply.
After skipping to nighttime, the player must contend with the Volatiles. One is brutal enough, but there are several on Kyle’s tail. Beast Mode is pretty useful in these chases, since it lets you run faster and leap higher. As you progress, Kyle’s control over The Beast becomes better, allowing him to trigger it at will (and discover some new secrets).
Dying Light: The Beast launches on September 19th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and later for PS4 and Xbox One.
