After how well-received Survival was in Tom Clancy’s The Division, it seemed only a matter of time before Massive brought it back for The Division 2. During its Gamescom panel, the developer officially announced The Division 2: Survivors, an “updated take on the survival extraction experience.” Further details are pending, but you can check out some new concept art below.
Led by creative director Magnus Jansén, who worked on the original game, Survivors is currently in the “early stages” of development. Executive producer Julian Gerighty said that it’s “as much your baby as it is ours, and we strive for transparency during its development.
“Clear communication and community involvement are a focus as we build the new experience, and we will be closely involving you as we move forward on the development journey.”
Judging by the concept art, Survivors will follow a similar gameplay loop to Survival. Dropped into a Winter version of Washington, D.C., players must likely gather materials and stay warm to escape by helicopter. They’ll encounter different threats along the way, including bandits, and one image shows the Washington Monument in flames.
The real question is whether the Hunters, which made their first appearance in Survival, will have a bigger role. Time will tell, so stay tuned.
The Division 2 is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Season 3: Mutiny begins later this year, though Massive has yet to provide a date.
